The Broken Hearted Part 3: The Cure

Read Part 2

In the two previous examples we have seen two men called of God to positions of power and authority. Each of these men failed due to their fallen state. In the first example, King David sinned greatly before God. As a result he humbled himself before God and his offering of a broken heart was found to be an acceptable sacrifice. In the second example, the Prophet Moses hardened his heart through pride and self service. And to note that it was the broken hearted approach of his wife Zipporah that the favor of the Lord did not pass from Israel. This leads us to the question how then can we strive towards mending our brokenness, our broken heart.

I am the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. And ye shall off up no more the shedding of blood; Yea, your sacrifices and your burnt offerings shall be done away, for I will accept none of your sacrifices and your burnt offerings; And ye shall offer for a sacrifice unto me a broken heart and a contrite spirit. And whoso cometh unto me with a broken heart and a contrite spirit, him will I baptize with fire and with the Holy Ghost, even as the Lamanites, because of their faith in me at the time of their conversion, were baptized with fire and with the Holy Ghost, and they knew it not. Behold, I have come unto the world to bring redemption unto the world, to save the world from sin; Therefore, whoso repenteth and cometh unto me as a little child, him will I receive; for of such is the kingdom of God. Behold, for such I have laid down my life and taken it up again; therefore, repent, and come unto me, ye ends of the earth, and be saved.” 3 Nephi 4:48-52 [9:18-22]

THE BROKEN HEARTED

It is through Jesus Christ that we can find redemption. It is through Christ that our broken hearts can begin to mend. It is only through Christ that the world can be saved and restored. I bear my witness that humanity as a broken people can find and bring healing to our hearts through the grace found only in Jesus Christ.
